Candi Sari |
|
Candi Sari is located in relatively close proximity to Candi Kalasan on the northwest side of modern Yogyakarta. It is most easily found by taking the road that leads to the village of Prambanan. Constructed during the 9th century, Candi Sari is believed to have been surrounded by a group of smaller temples, in a configuration similar to what can still be seen at Candi Plaosan Lor today. It is believed that the auxiliary building were used as sources of stone by local villagers over the centuries, which is why they are no longer in evidence. The evidence for this is circumstantial, based on the near eqality of the dimensions for Candi Sari with those of the two main viharas at Candi Plaosan Lor. |
